I’m Zach Casper—an engineer and technology leader who believes curiosity is as useful in a lab as it is on a mountain.
The professional side
Engineer by training.
For more than two decades, my work has spanned software and hardware engineering, embedded systems, reverse engineering, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence. I earned a B.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of Akron and an M.S. in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University.
Today I lead engineering and technical solutions at BigBear.ai. My focus is developing teams, shaping technical strategy, and bringing emerging capabilities into practical use. The best work happens when deep technical craft meets a clear understanding of the problem.
The personal side
Adventurer by nature.
Outside work, I’m happiest moving: mountain biking, boating, traveling, and exploring with my family. Earlier expeditions took me from Mt. Whitney and the French Alps to Mt. Elbrus. Those trips taught me to prepare well, trust a team, and stay open to the unexpected.
My Christian faith and my time with The Last Well—an effort that connected mountaineering with clean-water work in Liberia—are part of this story. The original site documented those years, and I’ve kept that history accessible here.
Hands-on curiosity
I like to know
how things work.
Cars and bicycles draw on the same curiosity that led me into engineering. I enjoy understanding how the parts work together, finding what needs attention, and building something I can take out and use.
